The 10-year Treasury closed Thursday at 4.69% and the VIX settled at 16.0. The macro backdrop held; Friday's session moved past it. Eight tickers on the desk gained at least 3%, each on a distinct catalyst.

$COIN: the Clarity Act trade

$COIN gained 8.2%. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said the Senate's Clarity Act — which establishes a federal framework for digital-asset market structure — will clear its September 15 cloture vote. Armstrong noted Coinbase can operate without the bill; the market priced the passage call regardless. Robinhood and Bakkt fell in the same session, pointing the cause at Washington rather than at bitcoin directly. Bitcoin's breakout through the ceiling that capped it for most of 2026 provided secondary lift to crypto-linked names.

$FCX: copper at a record

$FCX rose 7.6% and set an all-time high. Freeport-McMoRan's year-to-date run reflects two forces: mine-level operational improvements underway since early 2026, and copper price movements outside management's control. Reporting on the stock attributes roughly half the gain to data visible seven months ago; Friday's all-time high is where both converged.

$TSLA: Nevada approval

$TSLA added 5.1%. Nevada regulators cleared up to 5,000 driverless robotaxi deployments on Las Vegas streets for paid ride-hailing, directly advancing the Cybercab timeline. Tesla's U.S. EV market share stands at 59%, its highest reading since 2023.

Banks: $GS and $MS

$GS rose 3.7% as financial stocks led the Dow's rebound. Goldman paid $2.25 billion to acquire the firm behind a 14% income ETF — a capital allocation toward yield-focused retail flows. $MS gained 3.3% alongside the broader bank move; Morgan Stanley also launched an Ethereum ETP offering staking yield, with slashing risk and exit-queue exposure borne by investors.

AI and enterprise: $PLTR and $ORCL

$PLTR added 3.4%, clearing $180. $ORCL gained 3.1% after its VA contract was expanded by $17 billion; Mizuho flagged the expansion as a potential accelerant for SaaS growth.

Gold: $NEM

$NEM rose 3.1% on strong gold prices. Newmont appointed Peter Beaven to its board, effective September 1.

Filings desk

Two ongoing stories update. Since Tuesday's note on AMD CSO Paul Grasby's $7.7M sale, CEO Lisa Su has filed a separate $7.2M preset-plan sale — a second large $AMD executive transaction this week. Since Wednesday's note on Meta CFO Susan Li's $5.5M sale, Li has filed a second $META tranche of $5.1M within 48 hours. New today: $COP General Counsel Rose Kelly Brunetti sold 15,000 shares at approximately $134.52, generating $2.0M (10,284 shares retained). $HD CFO exercised options and sold $1.2M. $KO EVP netted $2.0M. $MA Chief Business Officer sold $2.3M in company stock.

What we set aside

Two proxy and governance filings were excluded as non-catalysts. Ten filings disclosed today referenced underlying events more than 36 hours old. ARM, RTX, and WELL were examined; none produced substantive news in the window.

The desk is watching Monday's copper open and whether bitcoin's breakout through its 2026 trading range holds.
