Oracle climbed 3.1 percent today after the company announced it would absorb 300 million dollars in rising energy costs at a Wisconsin nuclear plant, tied to a major data center expansion in the state. That's not corporate altruism. When a cloud company covers utility cost overruns upfront, it's locking in a build that isn't getting delayed. Worth understanding: Oracle's reported cash flow has looked unusually strong partly because of large customer prepayments — clients paying years ahead for cloud capacity, front-loading cash before the work gets done. That makes the valuation look cheaper than it might actually be. Meanwhile, cloud database revenue grew 353 percent last quarter, but massive infrastructure spending is already compressing margins. The real test is whether revenue can catch up to the capital being deployed. Next earnings, the capex line is what to watch.
