Intel dropped 6.6 percent today, and the move has two layers. The first is simple: a broad tech selloff dragged the whole group down. The second is more pointed. Connection — a tech solutions firm — announced a partnership today with Microsoft and Qualcomm to distribute Copilot+ PCs, and Intel's name is conspicuously absent from that press release. Copilot+ is Microsoft's AI-PC standard, and it requires a dedicated neural processing unit, or NPU, built into the chip — the spec where Qualcomm's Snapdragon X currently leads. When a distribution deal gets announced and it's Qualcomm plus Microsoft, not Intel plus Microsoft, that's a market share question wearing a press-release costume. Whale options flow in the IT sector was elevated today. Watch Intel's next earnings call for any NPU shipment numbers that show they're closing the gap.
