Costco beat the number. Stock barely moved. That disconnect is the actual story. COST reported Q4 fiscal 2026 earnings above consensus — but membership fee revenue growth has now decelerated for the third straight quarter, and for Costco that's the only scorecard that matters. The retail margin is essentially zero by design — the entire business model is built to sell goods at near cost and harvest the annual membership fee, which is virtually pure profit. Three straight quarters of that engine slowing down, and a headline EPS beat starts looking like noise. Same-store sales held up, which tells you the consumer is still showing up. But what the stock needs is membership renewal and upgrade rates moving in the right direction. Flat after a beat is a polite question mark, not an answer.
